Masterpieces from the Hermitage: The Legacy of Catherine the Great at NGV

At National Gallery of Victoria from 31 July until 8 November 2015, 400 works from the personal collection of Catherine the Great will be put on display. The collection gathered over a period of 34 years in addition to Hermitage’s collection includes outstanding works from artists such as Rembrandt, Velasquez, Rubens and Titian and exemplary works from Van Dyck, Snyders, Teniers and Hals. In a nutshell, the finest collection of Dutch and Flemish art will be on display here in Melbourne, a once-in-a-lifetime chance to witness the extraordinary personal collection of Catherine the Great.

Catherine the Great’s rule from 1762 to 1796 is remembered as the golden age; she is known for her extraordinary benefaction towards arts, literature, and education.
